I’m Paul — a desert wanderer, explorer, author, photographer, and storyteller with a lifelong curiosity about the places where history, nature, and adventure intersect.

I created Tales from the Desert to share that curiosity and to document my explorations of the American Southwest. Over the years, I’ve traveled extensively throughout Nevada, Arizona, Utah, and California, often venturing far beyond the pavement and established trails. I’m drawn to the quiet places—the forgotten mining districts, abandoned homesteads, remote canyons, ancient habitation sites, and rock art panels where traces of the past remain hidden in the landscape.

What began as a fascination with the desert has grown into something much broader. A faint trail crossing a valley, a weathered foundation, an unusual rock formation, or a petroglyph carved into a canyon wall can become the beginning of an entirely new journey. I’m especially fascinated by the evidence left behind by the people who came before us and by the stories that can be uncovered from the landscape itself.

That interest has led me to explore some of the most remote corners of the Southwest, documenting prehistoric rock art, abandoned mines and ghost towns, historic sites, unusual geological formations, and other places that rarely appear on the typical tourist itinerary. My photography is an attempt to capture not only what these places look like, but also the sense of history, mystery, and discovery they evoke.

I’m also a member of The Explorers Club, an organization whose legacy of exploration, scientific discovery, and adventure closely reflects my own interests. As my exploration of the past continues to evolve, I’m pursuing a Master’s degree in Archaeology at the University of Leicester, expanding my understanding of the archaeological record and the people who created it.

Although the American Southwest remains my favorite place to explore, my curiosity doesn’t stop at its borders. I’m a global traveler, where I love to try new experiences and embed myself with the local culture.

I’ve authored the 4-book series Tales from the Desert: A Photo Journal, which grew directly out of the adventures documented on this site. The books are a set of photo journals, where the pictures tell their own stories. It’s also a way to preserve some of the remarkable landscapes, historic remnants, and archaeological traces I’ve encountered along the way.

For me, exploration begins with a simple impulse: curiosity.

The desert rewards those willing to slow down, look closely, and venture just a little farther beyond the familiar. Sometimes the most remarkable discoveries aren’t found at the end of a well-marked trail—they’re waiting somewhere beyond it.
