Grapevine Canyon is located near Laughlin, NV.  It’s part of the Spirit Mountains and contains TONS of petroglyphs.  The Mojave Indians inhabited this area for thousands of years and consider this land extremely sacred.  In fact, some native people will not enter parts of the Spirit Mountains (known as Avi-Kwame).  While no one is certain what much of the rock art means, it’s speculated that this area depicts parts of the Creation Mythology.  Staying within the Grapevine Canyon area, you can spend lots of time exploring all the rock art.  Continuing on into the Spirit Mountains will take you through cottonwood stands, amazing granite structures, water-sculpted narrows and a dry waterfall.

I’m probably one of the most frequent hikers to grape vine canyon. I’ve hiked there for over 30 years now. On my last hike there I noticed something nobody realizes or mentions. As u leave parking lot and start hiking the trail/wash. On the right side u can tell an old dam use to be there. And the wash itself is too perfect on both sides. Both sides of wash has elevated banks around 12ft tall. I think that area was dammed up and was filled with the water from the spring. Then a great cataclysm destroyed the dam washing the remains away. Just a theory? What a beautiful place. Please take care of it and enjoy.
