According to Bill Mann’s excellent “Guide to 50 Interesting and Mysterious Sites in the Mojave,” these caves were used by ancient people.  The name “Indian Caves” comes from Bill Mann’s book, too.  Each of the caves in this area have seen heavy use, evidenced by the heavy black soot, some of which is from recent campers.  Per Bill Mann, many ancient artifacts from prehistoric times have been recovered from these caves by archaeologists.
