Little Red Rock is located outside of the boundaries of the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area (RRCNCA), west of Summerlin. There are some spectacular red Aztec sandstone outcroppings to scramble in and around. Within these outcroppings are several very ancient petroglyphs. Unfortunately, due to this site’s close proximity to the city, there’s been a lot of damage from off-roaders, shooters and idiots with spray paint. I just can’t comprehend what makes someone want to ruin such natural beauty.

With the ongoing construction and ever-encroaching neighborhoods, the land access is now heavily plastered with NO TRESPASSING signs. This land is on private property, so only enter if you receive the proper permission. If you are able to access the land, you’re sure to enjoy the amazing beauty of the area.

Hi Rachael – The access to the area is under control of the Howard Hughes Corporation. I believe portions of Little Red Rock are on BLM land, however I get conflicting information about what is BLM vs private based on map source (some map sources show an overlap). Access to Little Red Rock has become stricter over time, as new developments continue to encroach on this area. I don’t know who is in control of granting access at this time. I know they are regulating entry very tightly and from what I hear, permits are now difficult to get.

I have been up here several times on a motorcycle, but recently tried to get up there and found myself stymied at every turn. I just don’t understand how someone can “own” someplace like this.

I have found alot more petroglyphs than what is shown in the pictures. But I can’t post pictures I’d show you all. Place should be protected…

Citizen’s Rights: If it is private property, it has to be posted. If there is conflicting information, you need to contact BLM. Don’t get information from Howard Hughes corporation especially if it not a legal document. Just because it is a posted sign, it doesn’t make it true. Public land is not restricted by private corporations or businesses.
