Located in canyons of SW Colorado is the awesome Mesa Verde National Park. The park highlights the incredible cliff dwellings of the ancestral pueblo culture. The canyons themselves are spectacular, almost like another Grand Canyon. Making the area even more special are the ancient cliff-side dwellings. This area has been inhabited for 11,500 years, with the first pueblos appearing around 1,400 years ago. The park contains and incredible 600 known cliff dwellings! There are so many amazing ruins, but the most well known might be the Cliff Palace, which is thought to be the largest cliff dwelling in North America. Some of these dwellings are so high up on sheer vertical cliff faces, that it’s unbelievable that they ever could have been built.
