Willow Springs is a nice, small picnic area within the Red Rock National Conservation Area, near Las Vegas.  There are several trails that branch off from this area, including Lost Creek Trail and the Petroglyph Wall Trail.  At the main picnic area is a large boulder with several pictographs of hand prints, known as “Hands Across Time.”  These pictographs were most likely left by either the Mojave Indians or the Southern Paiutes.  They’re thousands of years old.  These hand prints are so “real” it’s almost like a window into the past…it’s a direct, personal link to the ancient people that called this place home many, many years ago.  You can almost feel their presence.  Besides the hand prints, there’s another stylized spiral design (hard to see with the naked eye), as well as a very large and well-preserved agave roasting pit.
