Jean Dry Lake is located just south of Henderson, NV, near the towns of Jean & Roach.  It’s surrounded by the McCullough range.  It’s a hugely popular recreational location for

4-wheeling and shooting.  It’s not unusual to see side-by-sides & dirt bikes racing across the lake bed, weaving in & out of the occasional dust devil.  Or, to hear the constant echo of gunfire and the occasional “Boom!” from some shooting at Tannerite.  I also see quite often racing planes (click on the video below the gallery), where the pilots are putting their planes through their paces.

You can also access the backside trails to get to Sloan Canyon, to see over 1,700 petroglyphs.  On the edge of the lake bed and directly off the main road (Las Vegas Blvd) is the Seven Magic Mountains art installation.  Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone was commissioned for this land art project, which contains locally sourced and colored boulders, going 40′ into the air.
