Logan is a ghost town originally established in 1865, founded after prospectors discovered silver near Mt. Irish.  It’s been reported that the original prospectors from 1865 were driven away by the local Southern Paiutes Indians.  This area was sacred to the Native Americans and I’m sure they didn’t appreciate the way the land was being scarred and defaced in the pursuit of silver.  Unfortunately for them, in 1866 more prospectors returned and they turned to violence to drive off the Indians.  The town grew to a few hundred people, which included a post office.  Just a few short years later in 1869 it was all but abandoned.

The drive to Logan is on a well-maintained dirt road, although in the spring there might be sections washed out, due to melting snow.  The road takes you through the awesome Mt. Irish Archaeological District, which includes a LOT of ancient Native American rock art sites.  This entire area is amazingly beautiful, with dense juniper and pinyon pine forests, cliffs and granite boulder fields.  There are endless opportunities to explore, hike and camp for miles & miles.
