This site has been referred to as “The Archer” due to its unique rock art.  It contains a petroglyph of a figure pointing a bow & arrow at a horned figure.  I wonder if this is meant as some type of “Keep Out!” warning?  I don’t recall coming across anything similar in this area.  Many of the petroglyphs appear much older and contain atlatl symbols.  Atlatls pre-date bow & arrows…they were essentially a tool to gain leverage for a type of throwing stick (think of a spear).  So, this area demonstrates potentially many generations using this site, starting many thousands of years ago and progressing into more recent prehistoric times.  There’s also a naturally protected alcove that appears to have been some type of social or cermonial gathering location (TONS of lithic scatter).  All throughout this area are hollowed out boulders.  If you crawl in these boulders you’ll sometimes find pictographs.  But, I haven’t found anything in these boulders (yet!).  The location is in the upper reaches of the Pahranagat Valley, within the White River Narrows Archaeological District.
